Reflection on Hardware Management
1) I learned a tremendous amount about updating devices, especially why we should update our devices. The safety of our devices and our private data is at stake if we do not update regularly, as well as the efficiency and reliability of our devices and the software on our devices. In my discovery of this information, I found myself actually fearing falling behind on updates on my devices, when previously I was quite indifferent about keeping up-to-date with updates. In experiencing this fear, I realized about myself that fear is the only thing that is actually going to get me to stay up to date on these things! I also learned that home-users are the slowest people to update, which means that others also experience indifference when their computers tell them to update. Those people should look at my presentation, and perhaps they will be frightened into following a regular updating schedule.
2) First of all, my partner, William Terry, helped me discern the instructions on the assignment, which was invaluable. Secondly, Will helped break down my Google Slide Presentation which will allow me to make necessary changes in the future.
3) The most challenging moment in this assignment was finding unbiased information on the internet regarding when the average home-user should update their device. The top sites were filled with ad-based information telling the consumer to buy extra protections for their computer and to buy a new computer every four years. I had to dig deeper into the internet to find reliable, unbiased sources on my subject.
4) The most powerful learning moment in this assignment was actually about this class in general. I came into this class not sure how helpful this class would be, especially with its "learn what you want to learn" ideology. In doing this assignment, I felt this teaching ideology was validated. I learned a ton of very relevant information for me, which was my professor's goal. I will use what I learned in the future in my own teaching practice(I am a history teacher), to introduce some self-learning projects at the end of the school year.
