Networks System Management Post
Key takeaways from the readings/videos:
In terms of academic knowledge and vocabulary of the internet, I learned more this week than every before. First of all, I learned that the internet itself is actually a physical wire, or rather, a network of physical cables, including copper telephone wires, TV cables, and fiber optic cables. Our personal computers aren't directly connected to the internet. They need to connect to special computers, called servers, that are directly connected to the internet. To connect to these servers, personal computers need to connect to the internet through a service provider.
I also learned the Bluetooth is a technology that uses radio waves to communicate over short distances Older gadgets can also be converted to use with blue tooth using plug-in adaptors. There are different classes of transmitters that go from 3 feet to 300 feet. Bluetooth devices automatically detect and connect to one another and up to eight of them can communicate at any one time. When a group of two or more Bluetooth devices are sharing information together, they form a mini computer network called a piconet. NFC is limited to a distance of approximately four centimeters. It is useful in crowded locations and is faster and easier than bluetooth
Key terms and phrases I have learned:
Client - Computers not directly connected to the internet, like personal computers
Servers - Secial computers connected directly to the internet. Each one has a unique IP address.
Webpages - files on a server's hard drive
Routers - Equipment in place anywhere were to parts of the internet intersect. It directs packets around the internet.
LAN = Local Area Network
DNS = Domain Name Server
Bluetooth = Uses radio waves designed for communicating over short distances less than about 10m or 30ft.
NFC - Near Field Communication - technology that connects in a fraction of a second, but only within a distance of four centimeters.
How can your new learning impact your current work or help you in the near future?
I am going to use some of the new tools I have found this week like Zoom, Screencastify, and IDroo to work with my students online, and I will use some new Bluetooth headphones to have better quality conversations with my students while keeping the distractions of my home out of my teaching.
Hi Dane,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing what you learned about Bluetooth. Before this week, I had no idea you could convert older devices to be Bluetooth-capable! That's really a great piece of information that people could continue using older devices that are still functioning.
I'm so glad that you now have a more clear understanding of how the internet works. Please share your new knowledge with students and teachers.
